After recently listening to my favourite podcast of the lovely Holly Tucker with Conversations of Inspiration it had me thinking.
As Holly spoke to Asma khan the owner of Darjeeling Express she explained a customer’s love to understand the Value they are buying and I believe it’s down to me to explain and show how the value you can buy here has its own Values.
Most of us understand shopping small and shopping Handmade comes with the joy of not only a product that’s usually unique to you but it supports someone in your community build their business.
The chain reaction of happiness starts between the buyer and the maker and can spread further such as if the items for a gift. Studies have shown that locally owned independent businesses —many of which sell wares produced by hand— return a higher percentage of their revenue to their communities than chains. That means the people who make money off sales at independent businesses, owners and employees, are more likely to spend their salary at places in the same area where they work.
I select our makers for their high quality of goods, having a clear quality check of items before I will send them to you, our valued customer. They have to be of a standard that I would appreciate to receive, but I do value in the price, the love and passion that goes in which is something that most highstreets items do not hold being made by machines. Variations in colour, shading, texture, shape and grain are inherent in a handmade item. No two items are alike, so that every single one is one-of-a-kind. This means that every handmade item you purchase is also one-of-a-kind. What’s not to like about that?
